HOMETOWN: London, UK

HIGH SCHOOL: The American School in London

Hi future Hoyas of the US and world! I am Christina and I attended the American School in London. I grew up in California, New Mexico, and New Jersey, but I was born in the Ukraine. I applied to Georgetown as Mathematics major, but since coming here have decided to include Economics as a second major and Russian as a minor. Georgetown accommodates every passion and interest you can think of, and if you cannot find a group that does, you can easily start your own! Every day that I walk through campus, I fall in love more and more with Georgetown and its people. I found that the professors here are very approachable and encouraging and will always make time to talk to you if you need it. On campus, I am part of the Hilltop Consultants, who provide business strategies for non-for-profit organizations. The surrounding Georgetown and greater D.C. area create an exciting student environment - you will never be bored while you are here. Please feel free to e-mail or Facebook me, I would love to answer any questions you have about Georgetown!

An Italian Girl in Frisco Students at Embassy CES

Meet Doriana: "An Italian Girl in Frisco!"

Meet our newest student blogger Doriana from Italy, who is studying at Embassy San Francisco.

My name is Doriana and I'm 23 years old. I'm from Sicily, Italy and I graduated in November, 2008 in Public Relations and Advertising from the University of Milan.

I came to San Francisco about three months ago and I'm trying to reach my goal, which is able to speak fluent English. In addition, I am proud to be a Student Worker because this gives me the opportunity to organize activities and to develop projects for the school, while remaining in close contact with students via the facebook page and this blog.

I attend the Embassy San Francisco school and I am completely in love with it, because it manages to combine a high disciplinary study level, with a sunny and friendly environment.

San Francisco is awesome. When you are walking, everything you see is absolutely fascinating. There are a lot of students from all over the world and it is very easy to make new friends and discover something unforgettable everyday. For this reason I'm happy to have gotten my visa in Italy and that this is valid for five years.

Over the weeks I will be giving you information and news about San Francisco, Embassy activities, and being a student in San Francisco.

I hope to see many of you in San Francisco!
All regards.

Doriana.

Fozia has aim to become a famous architecture in Pakistan but she is studying Industrial Bio Technology. She says about her picture that this was captured by her friend during visit Bagh-e-Jinah (also known as Laurence Garden) last month. Gardening is her hobby and she feels happy and wants to enjoy the every bit of nature. Fozia says we ever wished to have a nice garden at home, but later realized it is impossible because you live in an apartment? Because creating a mini garden is easy. Maintaining them is a different story. Before creating a mini garden, think carefully whether you have the time and interest to maintain it. Be informed that your garden needs to be watered on daily basis and tiny weeds needs to be pulled out every once in a while. You will need to fertilize your plants about once a month.

Fozia is here to make some decent educated online friends. If you think that you are capable them simply make a comment.

Georgetown University girls and boys student

Laura Brace

NAME: Laura Brace

SCHOOL: Georgetown College (COL)

YEAR: 2011

MAJOR: Anthropology, minor - Spanish

HOMETOWN: Egham, Surrey, England

HIGH SCHOOL: ACS Egham International School

ACTIVITIES: Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, AGAPE Retreat Program, Salt and Light Catholic Pre-Orientation Leader, GAAP

Hi everyone! My name is Laura Brace and I’m a junior in the College majoring in Anthropology with a Spanish minor. I’m a dual US/UK citizen and I have spent most of my life living near London, where I attended an international school. I remember being worried about feeling out of place at a US university but it’s easy to feel at home here. There are a lot of international students here, and many people have lived abroad or speak other languages. You will find that American students are extremely welcoming and are very interested in other cultures. There are also a lot students from the UK here! So, if you ever do feel a bit homesick, there will always be someone with a stash of Cadbury’s or who knows the results of the latest Premiership clash. Having Washington D.C. on your doorstep is another great advantage. It’s a very international city—the seat of international organizations, and home to diplomats from around the world. The city is an incredible resource for Georgetown students. During my first semester here I was able to participate in an International Development Dinner on campus that boasted leaders at the forefront of international policy. There were guests from organizations like the US State Department and the World Bank. At Halloween (which is huge here in the States!), it is a Georgetown tradition to go trick-or-treating along Embassy Row, stopping to get sweets from international diplomats! Georgetown students get the best of both worlds—the strong community of a campus university, with all that a big city has to offer right on our doorstep. Although a move across the Atlantic can be intimidating, I know that you will fall in love with Georgetown.

Switzerland's Student of Tania

Tania Student From Switzerland

Zurich-Student

Tania has sent this photo from Zurich. Tania is a student of technology degree. Living in outskirts of Zurich, largest city in Switzerland. and the capital of the canton of Zürich. The city is Switzerland’s main commercial and cultural centre and sometimes called the Cultural Capital of Switzerland, the political capital of Switzerland being Berne.

Tania is very happy with quality of life Zurich offers. Zürich can be counted as one of the world’s pre-eminent global cities. According to several surveys from 2006 to 2008, Zürich was named the city with the best quality of life in the world as well as the wealthiest city in Europe.

Tania takes tram everyday to her university and it takes about 20 minutes to get the university. Within Zürich and throughout the canton of Zürich, the ZVV network of public transport has traffic density ratings among the highest worldwide. If you add frequency, which in Zürich can be as often as 7 minutes, it does become the densest across all dimensions. Three means of mass-transit exist: the S-Bahn (local trains), trams, and buses (both diesel and electric, also called trolley buses).

Tania is studying in The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zürich. Zürich is home to two universities and many colleges (called gymnasiums). Two of Switzerland’s most distinguished universities are located in the city. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zürich which is controlled by the (federal) state and the University of Zürich that is under direction of the canton of Zürich. Both universities are well-known and have an international reputation. They were listed in the top 50 world universities rated in 2007.
